Today, September 25, 2012 - The Center for Disease Control announced 40 Community Transformation Grant Small Communities (CTC) awards online today.  We are excited to say that our HEALTHY KING COUNTY COALITION partner, Seattle Childrens’ Hospital, got a $3.6 million grant for 2 years for obesity prevention and tobacco control in South Seattle and South King County.  Seattle Children’s will be working closely with Public Health – Seattle & King County and the Healthy King County Coalition to focus on nutrition, physical activity and tobacco prevention in partnership with youth, families and communities.

Areas of focus include the cities of Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Kent, North Highline, Renton, SeaTac and Tukwila, and the Seattle neighborhoods of Beacon Hill, Georgetown and South Park. This area has a combined population of over 479,000.

Children’s, PHSKC and HKCC will closely partner with governments, schools, hospitals, low-income housing groups, as well as childcare and youth organizations in these areas to implement changes in policy and environments that help meet grant objectives and support the health of children and families.
