Val Thomas-Matson, Program Manager

Mrs. Thomas-Matson is the Program Manager for the Healthy King County Coalition, which mobilizes community members, and community based organizations to achieve health equity.

Prior to coming to the coalition, Thomas-Matson worked for 15 years, as an organizer for King County’s Community Organizing Program. Through associations such as block-watch, neighborhood groups and community coalitions Thomas-Matson facilitated and managed groups in developing self-identified solutions for neighborhood specific problems, such as substance abuse and violence related issues. 

While at King County, she produced and hosted a public affairs talk show for King County TV called, Communities in Action. Thomas-Matson earned her B.A. in Broadcast Communications and Early Childhood Development at Western Washington University. Thomas-Matson is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

Suzy Knutson, Coalition Organizer

Suzy comes to the Coalition with a background in teaching and non-profit outreach, fundraising, and administration. As an educator and food justice advocate, she shares the Coalition’s passion of mobilizing community and creating healthy and equitable spaces. A Minneapolis native, she and her husband have called Seattle home since 2005.
